ＩｎＰは電気信号と光信号を相互に変換できる光通信分野向けの結晶材料。 ＡＩ （人工知能）の急速な発展によりデータ通信量が増大する中、 データセンター （ＤＣ）向けの光通信インフラ需要の拡大に対応する。同製品として過去最大となる大規模投資を実施する。

大井川 和彦知事は19日の定例会見で、JX金属（本社・東京）が 茨城県 北茨城、ひたちなか両市の拠点に、今年度から4年かけて最大1200億円の設備投資を進める方針について、「県内の活性化、雇用拡大にもつながる」と期待感を示した。

荷主 JX金属は16日、光通信分野向け結晶材料のインジウムリン（InP）基板の生産能力を増強するため、今後4年間で最大1200億円を投資する方針を決めたと発表した。AI（人工知能）の高度化に伴うデータセンター向け光通信インフラ需要の拡大に対応する。これまで公表した投資と合わせると、総投資額は1500億円規模となる。
